The Horse Soldiers



John Wayne stars as Colonel Marlowe, who has to sneak his Cavalry Regiment, three hundred miles inside Confederate territory, to destory an important supply depot, Newton Station. Then meet up with Union troops down by Baton Rouge. Co-starring William Holden as Major "Doctor" Kendall, Regimental Surgeon.     



Marlowe is meeting with some general officers, including General Grant. They are planning the attack of Newton station.



Marlowe is seen here, briefing his own officers on the plan to attack Newton Station.



Marlowe is meeting his new Regimental Sergeant-Major. His previous Sergeant-Major was relieved of duty by Doc Kendall, due to Malaria.



Marlowe is looking on, where a squad from his regiment was ambushed and is retreating. 2 soldiers were wounded.



Kendall has already treated the two soldiers for their wounds. A couple of slaved children, escorted Kendall to their house, to help their mother out, who is in labor. Due to his actions, Marlowe is putting Kendall under hous arrest.



Marlowe and his senior officers are occupying a Plantation called Green Briar. Constance Towers playing the southern belle who owns it.



Doc Kendall is interrupting Marlowe's staff meeting. He caught the two ladies listening to their plans through the heater ducts.



Constance Towers, tried to escape from Marlowe and his men. Unfortunately she got wet when she did. The Sergeant-Major and some of the men are helping her, to dry off her clothes.



Marlowe's men capture two Johnny Rebs, who were holding a elderly Sheriff prisoner. The Sheriff was trying to arrest the men for desertion. Marlowe knocks out both men and gives custody of the men back to the Sheriff.



Marlowe and his Regiment have reached Newton Station. They are seen talking to the senior Confederate officer in the town.



Before Marlowe and his men could occupy the town, the Confederates managed to get a call for reinforcements wired out. The reinforcements are seen emerging from the train. The Union soldiers end up easily, defeating the Confederates.



Marlowe and his men have destoryed all the war contraband at Newton Station. They are seen exiting out of Newton Station and on their way to Baton Rouge.



Marlowe and his men have bumped into some Rebel artillery which has no Infantry support. The Artillery Commander, urgently requests that the local Military School provide Infantry support for them. They are seen here forming up to move out.



Kendall and Marlowe were fighting over there differences that they have. Each getting tired of the other's attitude. During the middle of the brawl, they were stopped by the young Militia School's attack on their Regiment.



Marlowe's Regiment is seen moving through the swamps to get away from the Confederates, who are on their tails.



Marlowe and his men are encamped on one side of the river, with Reb's Artillery on the other. They also have Rebel Cavalry pursuing them from the swamps. Union soldiers are seen here attacking and clearing the other side of the river. Once they clear it, Marlowe and his men blow the bridge and are free to meet up with Union troops in Baton Rouge.
